Latisse™
Full, natural-looking eyelashes can now be achieved through a prescription treatment called LatisseTM. Latisse is the first and only eyelash treatment approved by the FDA to help grow longer, fuller and darker eyelashes and treat hypotrichosis, a condition that includes having inadequate or not enough eyelashes.
Latisse contains bimatoprost, an active ingredient that improves the appearance of your lashes and is often found in glaucoma medication. While the precise science of the treatment is not known, research suggests that the number of hairs and duration of the growth process are increased by bimatoprost.
This prescription medication is applied topically to the base of the eyelashes once a day, after makeup and contact lenses have been removed and any other skincare products have already been applied. While it does not replace mascara, Latisse offers an attractive complement to help further enhance full, long and beautiful lashes.
The results of Latisse are visible after 4 weeks, with full results appearing after 16 weeks. You can track the progress of your results through photographs. Side effects of Latisse are rare but may include itching, redness or dryness in the eye area. You should not use Latisse if you have an active eye infection or broken skin or irritated skin on the eyelid. Call our office today to find out if Latisse is right for you.

CoolTouch® Laser
This remarkable advance laser treatment provides laser rejuvenation designed to reduce the effects of aging by delivering laser energy through the skin's surface and gently stimulating the production of collagen. CoolTouch has a protective cooling spray that is applied to the skin to allow laser light to pass harmlessly thought the upper layers of your skin to stimulate cells that produce collagen deep beneath the surface. Collagen and elastin fibers continue to increase after your treatments for several months that leads to softening and improvement of facial wrinkles and depressed scars with minimal to no down time. CoolTouch is an effective tool for improving acne scarring. For the best results, Dr. Carter recommends a series of four treatments spaced about four weeks apart. Your results will continue to evolve up to 6 months after the treatment series. Optimal treatment will include a maintenance program with repeat laser treatments every 4-6 months.

Intense Pulsed Light System (IPL)
Permanent Hair Reduction
After evaluating different IPL systems, Dr. Carter decided that the Palomar IPL device offered the best long-term solution for hair reduction for different skin types. The Palomar StarLux® IPL is unique in the field because it produces the highest total energy of any light-based system currently available.
The Palomar StarLux system delivers pulsed light over one smooth pulse interval that keeps the epidermal temperature lower making the treatments more comfortable. The safe delivery of larger amounts of energy provides more effective treatments.
IPL hair removal requires a series of treatments due to the natural growth cycle of the hair follicle.
Human hair grows in cycles of active, resting, and transitional stages. The IPL "targets" the pigment (melanin) in the hair follicle that is at its peak during the active growth cycle.
We start our patients by recommending a series of 4-5 treatments. Depending on your hair and skin characteristics, more treatments may be recommended. Treatment remains most successful for dark brown and black hair due to the "strong" target for the laser. Blond, white, and gray hair has less melanin in the hair follicle, resulting in a weak or non-existent target for the laser.
Photofacial Skin Rejuvenation
Intense pulsed light treatments with the Palomar Starlux system are very effective for improving sun-damage, age spots (sun-induced freckles), red spots (broken capillaries, facial veins, or diffuse redness, such as rosacea), and other facial imperfections surface discolorations of the skin. In addition to the improvement in skin discolorations, many patients experience a general improvement in skin texture as well as some tightening of the pores.
IPL Skin Treatments using the photofacial process treats the entire face rather than a single isolated area or imperfection, conveying an overall revitalized and youthful appearance. The term "photofacial" refers specifically to the treatment of the face; however this procedure can be used on any area of the body. A treatment takes only 20 to 60 minutes (depending on the areas being treated), and you can return to work or daily activities immediately. It is administered in a series of four to six treatment sessions, providing gradual, natural improvement with excellent results. Patients will generally require 3 to 6 treatments to achieve optimal results, depending on the amount of discoloration to be treated and individual response to treatment. Fees vary with the area treated.
Intense pulsed light is not particularly effective in treating leg veins and we do not recommend using it for that purpose.
The advantages of photofacial IPL over other skin resurfacing methods are considerable, particularly for a younger population with mild to moderate skin damage.
