Facelift
(Rhytidectomy)

Over time, the long-term effects of gravity, exposure to sun, dry air, and general stress takes its toll on an individual's face and neckline.  Jowls can develop under the jawline with folds and fat deposits.  Sometimes creases begin to form between the nose and the mouth.

A facelift can considerably reduce these signs of aging by removing excess fat, tightening the underlying muscles, and redraping the skin around the neck and face.  Facelifts can be done alone, or are frequently performed in conjunction with another procedure such as a browlift, eyelid surgery, or lip enhancement.  If your problem areas are limited to the neck, a more conservative procedure, known as a "necklift" will be recommended.  In some cases, a facelift can reduce the outward signs of aging by ten or fifteen years.

Eyelid Surgery
(Blepharoplasty)

Eyelid surgery (blepharoplasty) is designed to remove excess skin and fat from the upper and lower eyelids.  The procedure can correct drooping upper lids that tend to sag with time and the puffy bags below the eyes.  The procedure usually takes about 1- 2 hours and can be performed in the office using local anesthesia.  Stitches can be removed after three or four days.  Blepharoplasty can be done as a single procedure, or in conjunction with another facial surgery such as a facelift or a browlift.

Surgery of the Nose
(Rhinoplasty)

Surgery to reshape the nose, (rhinoplasty) is among the most common plastic surgery procedures.  This procedure can reduce or increase the size of the nose, remove an unwanted hump, change the shape of the tip or the bridge, narrow the width of the nostrils, or change the angle between the nose and the upper lip.  The procedure is also used to correct problems resulting from injury and can help relieve certain breathing difficulties.

Forehead Lift
(Browlift)

A forehead lift or "browlift" is used to correct a drooping browline (eyebrow area) reducing the horizontal lines and furrows (worry lines) that often make a person appear angry, sad or tired.  The procedure creates a refreshed, youthful appearance to the forehead area above the eyes.

When performing a forehead lift procedure, muscles and tissue areas that droop or cause creases are corrected to smooth the skin on the forehead, reduce frown lines and raise the eyebrows.  There are two surgical methods, and during your initial consultation the procedure that works best for you will be recommended.  The first is the more conventional method in which a surgical incision is hidden just above the hairline.  Dr. Carter often performs the browlift by using an endoscope which enables the procedure to be performed with minimal incisions.  While the traditional method can sometimes attain more lift, both methods create smoother, flatter skin on the forehead with fewer lines.

Lip Enhancement

Full and vivacious lips have always been recognized as aesthetically important features.  Some of us however, have thinner and less defined lips than we may want or could enjoy.  With increasing options available,  the appearance of our lips is now within our control.  These alternatives include injectables to increase the outline of the lips, lipostructure to increase the "red" of the lip, or other tissue grafting to increase either area.  Injectables can be done at a convenient office visit, while lipostructure and tissue grafting may require local anesthesia and light sedation.

Facial Implants - Surgery of the Chin, Cheeks and Jaw

Facial implants can be used to improve an reshape facial features.  These implants are made from a variety of materials and come in a range of sizes and styles.  Most common, chin surgery can be helpful in balancing the facial profile and creating a smoother, or more "angular" appearance.  Other surgical procedures may also be available to help increase or decrease the prominence of the facial contours, such as, the reduction of the chin bone or a "cheek" lift.

Injectable Tissue Fillers (e.g., Collagen)

Collagen is a protein found in the second layer of skin known as the dermis (the first layer is called the epidermis).  Bovine collagen is injected under the dermis layer to add fullness to areas of the face such as the lips, cheeks and forehead.  Other injectables include fillers, such as, Cymetra and fatty tissue.  Cymetra is micronized Alloderm tissue that can be injected into similar areas of the face as Bovine Collagen.  Dr. Carter also places fatty tissue using a technique called lipostructure.  The fat is taken from other body areas, processed, and injected into the requested areas.
